Not a traditional meditation, my guided practice leads gently into the right brain oasis — literally, the place of inner peace and contentment in the body, the place — as Jill Bolte Taylor discovered — of bliss. I provide the imagery, following the path to the bridge, where we leave extra burdens, old baggage, by the river, and carry on, drawn magnetically to the right brain forest. We step into the mystery of life itself, explore the forest, find the mossy clearing, the body of water….aware that as we proceed in our imagination, we are literally opening neural pathways, building neural structures in the brain. I feel the actual activation in my right brain, I feel my brain lighting up.
Then, tonglen practice, where we identify a deep underlying feeling of something difficult or painful, and breathe it in, and release it…then, down deeper, to a deep chronic rut where we dig ourselves in. We know that neurons that fire together wire together. We see how we get stuck. We pause, drop the shovel, take a breath, climb up out of the rut….
and wonderful things happen as we tend the garden of our mind. Our brains light up. We experience a lightness of being that brings joy.
